Private operator guide version control

Within my company we have many operator guides that are kept private and used internally for engineers to follow. We are now in a situation where some of these guides need to have version control but stay private to our organization.

Also I can't seem to add version control to a private guide without first creating a release, will this also make the guide public?

It is my understanding that a public guide is available to anyone that wants to find it is this correct?

Any help would be much appreciated.
