Will I lose my content?

One question that I’ve been wondering about, and need to better understand with Dozuki, is what happens if Dozuki shuts their doors tomorrow?

How do I access my content? If I were to lose everything we create in Dozuki, I’d be in a world of hurt, because we are planning on not only creating assembly documentation, but also our ISO Documentation in the program.

Can I do a routine backup of all the information? How do your other customers account for this?

This is an important question—we know how much work goes into developing the content, so we make it easy to get the content out of Dozuki in a reusable format. All paid accounts have the option to request up to two file dumps per calendar year as part of the service. You can request these file dumps at any time and all you need to do is provide us with a location to transfer the data to. The dumps include all data on your site—including images and videos.

In addition to the file dumps you can routinely download all the content on your Dozuki site using our API, or using one of the many website copier tools available for free (you can easily download your entire Dozuki site and view content offline using HTTrack).

Dozuki guides use an XML schema called oManual. oManual is an IEEE Standard (1874). This allows you to take a guide authored in Dozuki and (with a little work) import it into any XML-based authoring tool. So if you ever decide to stop using Dozuki you have the ability to reuse the content in your guides.

HTTrack needs to authenticate to Dozuki in order to download the content. It appears that the way to do that is by having HTTrack set up a proxy address, and then having your browser access your Dozuki website through that proxy. This is supposed to allow HTTrack to capture the authentication. However, I have not gotten that to work. I wonder if it might be due to my corporate IT policy, which may prohibit going through a proxy. I don't know.

I have been trying to get a concrete answer on this same question without much luck. I've sent a number of emails back and forth with support attempting to get clarity and am left with more questions than I started.

I've gathered that guides, wikis, and videos are able to be exported out, but have not been able to get a definitive answer on how anything that is not itself a guide/wiki/video, nor is it housed/attached/embedded within a guide/wiki, is extracted.

This is incredibly problematic as we have uploaded countless PDF and Excel files into the tree of category folders we've built over time and are now unsure if they can be mass exported out.

Maybe I'm not using the right nomenclature to get my point across to support, but I'm very concerned that there does not seem to be a clear path on how to pull all of our data from Dozuki if need be.

Any attached documents, in a Guide, Wiki or Category is included in the data dump. Media still in users' media manager is not included nor are documents that are not available for viewing. These would be documents that were uploaded, but removed from the content they were attached to.

Any attached document that is part of your site structure will be included in the data dump.
