Why have my images disappeared when downloading as a PDF?

After creating a Guide I simply went to options and downloaded as a PDF. When opening the PDF all of the images within the guide are gone and only have a small rectangle where the images would be placed. Is there a reason for this? Images are not larger than 40mb.
