Overview
Flags are markers that tell your users and the system important information about the state of a page. They are prominently displayed at the top of the page to inform new readers. You can add flags to categories, wiki pages, and guides.
Flags have three primary purposes:
- To indicate content that needs improvement in a specific area.
- To mark "stub pages" that are incomplete and need to be written or expanded.
- To identify classes of content in a way that is useful to users, like "User-contributed Content" for public sites or "Official Guide" for internal sites.
Example of Flags on a Guide
Using Flags
Controlling Flag Usage
You can restrict certain users from adding flags to guides by adding a privilege setting to the flag. See the How to Create a Flag Guide for instructions on customizing flags.
By adding the text 'privilege=admin' to the flag definition, users will not be able to add this flag to pages, and they will not be able to remove it if it's already on a page.
Example:
[def_flag |flagid=GUIDE_CONTROVERSIAL_CONTENT |image=DEFAULT_IMAGE |title=Controversial page |text=This page is on a controversial topic, and site administrators are currently reviewing it. |privilege=admin ]

Creating & Customizing Flags
You can remove or customize existing flags on your site, or create new flags.
Note: When creating a new flag, you must choose from an existing flag icon image. The following images are currently available:
ALERT | ACTION_SHOTS | ADD_IMAGES | BETTER_INTRO |
BULLETS | CAMERA | CONFUSING_TEXT | DANGEROUS_RED |
DEADLY_RED | DELETE | DONATE_DEVICE | DEVICE |
FOLDER_MISSING | GRAMMAR | GUIDE_ARCHIVE | INCOMPLETE |
MARKUP | MEMBER | MISSING_DETAILS | MISSING_IMAGE |
PENCIL | PHOTOS | PREREQ | PREREQ_ERROR |
PREREQ MISSING | SCENIC_ROUTE | SPEECH | SPLIT |
STAR | STEP_ALERT | STUB | STUB_DEVICE |
STUB_PAGE | STUDENT | STUDENT_WIKI | TEXT_ERROR |
TEXT_MISSING | TRIM | UNLISTED | WRENCH |
Removing Flags
Flags can be removed from your site, but you should do so with extreme caution. Removing a flag that is in use from the master list will remove it from all pages.

Contribute Page
Adding flags to pages automatically adds them to your site's Contribute Page, a list of site pages that need improvement. You can view your site's Contribute page by adding/Contribute to the end of your site URL.
The Contribute Page helps your authoring team or public community know which pages to improve.
